Min: Russia not to resume Turkish tomato imports before winter
MOSCOW, Sep 13 (PRIME) -- Russia will not resume imports of Turkish tomatoes before winter, Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachyov told Rossiya 24 television channel on Wednesday.
“Allowing Turkish tomatoes to the Russian market, we should certainly first of all care about Russian producers, and we will monitor the market here. And if to import Turkish tomatoes, then in off-season periods: winter, early spring, when we do not have own tomatoes,” he said.
Kommersant business daily reported on Monday that the Agriculture Ministry and the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight could allow imports of tomatoes to Russia by several approved Turkish companies already from October.
